Age relaxation applies only to candidates who are original domicile of Gujarat. In all cases, age including relaxation must not exceed 45 years as on the closing date. BMC’s own employees are exempt from the base upper age limit, subject to an overall cap of 58 years.

Selection Process

Selection is through a Written Examination and/or Oral Test (Interview), with weightage varying by post:

  1. Shortlisting: The BMC Selection Committee decides a cut-off percentage based on vacancies and applications received, and prepares a merit list. Only shortlisted candidates get a call letter.
  2. Written Exam / Oral Test: Conducted in Gujarati by default (English medium for English-subject questions), with the exact medium decided based on the post’s core discipline.
  3. Final Merit – Executive Engineer: If both stages are held, Written Exam counts for 90% and the Oral Test for 10% of the final merit.
  4. Final Merit – Sanitary Sub Inspector & MPHW: Based on 100% of the result of whichever stage(s) are conducted.

The provisional merit/select list stays valid for 2 years or until the next such exam’s result, whichever is earlier. Candidates already serving in BMC or another Government body must resign from their existing post if selected — prior service isn’t regularized or counted.
